Born and raised on the island of Patmos, he grew up in a musical family and began studying the violin at the age of nine.
He holds a degree in Ethnomusicology from the Ionian University and has also completed formal studies in harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, and Byzantine music. At 17, he won first prize in the national student competition for traditional violin.
As a performer, Michellis has appeared at prestigious venues including the Herodion and the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens, as well as international festivals such as the Festival of Sacred Music in Arles, France. He has collaborated with leading musicians in the Greek traditional music scene and is known for his expressive style and deep knowledge of regional idioms.
Alongside his performance career, Michellis is a professor at the University of Macedonia, where he teaches traditional violin and ensemble performance. He also teaches at the Athens Conservatoire and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
